The comments so far are true...except it's not just the seniors that have
no respect for SGs; needless to say the juniors will follow the party line.
Is it not possible, as per the anaesthetic situation in Hartlepool a few
years back, for individual depts to negotiate beyond the fixed pay rate?
BTW the attitude in primary care, from recent outbursts from GPs on the
drs.net forum, is that A&E staff grades whinge about GP referrals, do a
minimum of work and f**k off home at 5pm (and that last is a direct quote).
Isn't that just what GPs are doing by dropping the out of hours commitment?
The general attitude towards SGs (outside of the dept they work in) is
probably the worst shown towards any group of doctors in any specialty - at
least, I've tried to come up with a group more looked-down-on, and I
haven't managed it (willing to be corrected; might make me feel better).
One idea that is looming larger as time goes on - a 24h walkout by all A&E
SGs nationwide might force a reassessment of their value.
