Hello Everyone,
I've been playing with some new hardware recently and have encountered
some install problems while trying to boot the 2.2.19-6.2.12smp kernel.
The system is a dual athlon box using a Tyan Tiger (S2466) motherboard
with an on-board 3COM ethernet controller (3c59x), 1GB Ram, a Western
Digital 120GB hard-drive, a CDROM and floppy.
After the EDG pre-install (1.4) the system hangs during boot-up.
The last few lines on the console read:
>Ram disk driver initialised: 16Ram disks of 4096K size
>PCI_IDE: unknown ide controller on PCI bus 00 device 39,VID=1022,DID=7441
>ide0:0 BM-DMA at 0xf000-0xf007, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio
>ide0:0 BM-DMA at 0xf008-0xf00f, BIOS settings: hda:pio, hdb:pio
We've traced the problem to the AMD7441 controller which is not
supported in the 2.2 kernels. Can anyone suggest a quick fix?
regards, Dave.
