Workshop announcement: Listen to Lone Parents: Real lives and public
policies
As part of their annual conference the National Council for One Parent
Families is holding a two hour workshop session. The conference is being
held on Thursday, 15th May, at the Queen Victoria Conference Centre and the
workshops will start at 12.30pm and go on to 2.30pm.
The workshop programme covers the following topics:
The new tax credits
Child support reform - what it means for you
Making future plans - money and pensions
Parents and children
Families, work and childcare
Listening to black lone parents
Access to lifelong learning - who is getting it?
Poverty and work - hitting the targets?
Speakers include Jane Millar from the University of Bath, Hilary Land from
the University of Bristol, Stephen Burke from Daycare Trust, Christie
Gowdridge from the Maternity Alliance, Alison Garnham and Djuna Thurley
from the National Council for One Parent Families as well as
representatives from a number of Government departments.
The fee for attending either the whole conference or the workshop sessions
is £75. The conference itself starts at 10am and is scheduled to close at
4pm. The programme includes a speech by Patricia Hewitt (Secretary of State
for Trade and Industry, Minister for Women) as well as various plenary
sessions.
This is a unique opportunity to catch up with recent policy developments as
well as progress made against Government targets such as the 70% employment
target for lone parents and halving child poverty by 2010.
