The terms "policy" and "politics" are generated from
the greek word "polis", meaning the ancient city (have
you heard about Acropolis in Athens, the city walls
around Parthenon?)
By "Information Politics" I mean the use of
information and electronic communication technology
to furhter political and self-serving purposes in the
workplace.
I have already in mind an article in the Information
Management Journal entitled "Using Information &
eMail for Political Gain" [36(5):76-80]. The authors
focus on the use of email systems and define the term
"e-politics" as the combination of communications
technology and political behaviour in the workplace.
They go further by presenting the results of a
survey they conducted on how people use various media
of communication to further workplace political
purposes.
There it becomes obvious the use of email for
multiple purposes, from conducting the daily business
to transmitting personal messages and advancing their
workplace political intentions.
I hope I explained better what I mean. Any input
would be very helpful.
