Dear All,
The RMS is pleased to announce their first ever fieldtrip to DEEPSTORE - the
UK's most secure storage facility, 500ft below ground in the Winsford Rock
Salt Mine, right in the heart of Cheshire.
In the last three years a large area of the mine have been sectioned off and
now host Britain's ultimate secure storage service for government and
private companies records alike. The trip will now be even more relevant to
the membership after the announcement by Deepstore last week that they have
just been awarded a major storage contract from the PRO (National Archive).
A specially arranged tour of both the document storage and underground
facilities has been arranged for RMS members on Friday, 20th June. During
the trip RMS members will have a unique opportunity to tour this gigantic,
200 million year old underground world containing 150 miles of underground
roadways and caverns big enough to tour around in a double decker bus.
For sheer security and inaccessibility, there is literally nothing like
DEEPSTORE on the face of the earth. A visit to DEEPSTORE is a jaw-dropping
experience and as such we are sure that this trip will give a whole new
meaning to the term "data mining". And last but not least, don't forget to
bring your camera and your sample bags - we have been promised as salt as
you can carry!
Places on the trip are limited to RMS members in the first instance and will
be pre-allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please contact the RMS Field Trip Coordinator, Paul Duller

Best Wishes,
Paul
