We are pleased to announce a suite of new JISC mailing lists that
have been set up by the Economic and Social Data Service
(ESDS).
The Economic and Social Data Service is a new UK national data
service that brings together four centres of expertise in data
creation, preservation and use, based at the Universities of Essex
and Manchester: UK Data Archive; Institute for Social and
Economic Research; Manchester Information and Associated
Services; Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research.
These centres are working collaboratively to provide preservation,
dissemination, user support and training for an extensive range of
key economic and social data, both quantitative and qualitative,
spanning many disciplines and themes.

*A news list, esds-news, has been set up to inform users of
forthcoming events, new data releases and new developments
across ESDS.
ESDS comprises a number of specialist data services that offer
value-added data and documentation products and enhanced
support for the secondary use of data across the research, learning
and teaching communities. Each service has established its own
discussion list:
*esds-govsurveys - run by ESDS Government
(www.esds.ac.uk/government) at CCSR for large-scale government
data;
*esds-international - run by ESDS International
(www.esds.ac.uk/international) at MIMAS for key international
macro and micro data series and surveys;
*esds-longitudinal - run by ESDS Longitudinal
(www.esds.ac.uk/longitudinal) at the UKDA for the major UK-based
panel and cohort studies;
*esds-qualidata - run by ESDS Qualidata
(www.esds.ac.uk/qualidata) for key UK qualitative data sources.
The aims of these lists are:
*to disseminate information to users of the ESDS including details
of new releases, updates, courses, workshops and events;
*to act as a moderated discussion list of users;
*as a source of user feedback, i.e. to keep the ESDS team
informed of your data needs and thoughts on service development
plans.
