Just for fun, I have listed different contexts in my nearness the word
metadata are being used (see attachment). Including programmers talking
about table defs in SQL and clinical research managers talking about the
origin of a tissue.
In my mind as an "information architect/information modeller/IT
architect/what ever ..." they are talking about the need for "structured
descriptions of different types of resources". In my profession I can use
the same set of questions independent of contexts:
- What type of resources - What is recognised as valuable assets in your
"world"?
- What metadata, which properties - What structured description makes these
become assets, to make them useable, maintainable and reusable in different
domains and for different groups?
So meta/metadata/metamaticians/... is powerful - but tricky !

Simon,
I have been grappling with the same issue for sometime. The solution I have
come up with for my situation is that I sign off as "Cataloguer (Web
Metadata)".
The reason I have come up with this solution for myself is that I have found
that the term "metadata" is being used in many different contexts. When for
instance programmers refer to metadata they don't mean Dublin Core. The
title I have is simplistic but firstly conveys the actual function I perform
which is cataloguing and secondly states that I'm creating Web metadata for
clarification.
We've had a few issues in terms of programmers saying metadata and so am I
and both parties using the same word but taking a long time to realise we're
not talking about the same thing. Causes major problems when you are working
in a web team.
I've decided simple is best using words I hope everyone can relate too. So
far this approach seems to be working for me!!!
Food for thought along with all the other fantasmagorically brilliant and
amusing suggestions that have been coming your way!!
Kind Regards

Please don't think of this as a silly question, but I'm struck for what to
collectively call advocates of structured metadata. Any suggestions would be
welcome? Is there anything in common usage?
Apologies if this has already been resolved.
Best wishes
Simon
