APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTING
Delights and Dilemmas of Researching Volunteering and the Voluntary Sector
Call for papers for the second meeting of the ‘new voluntary sector
researchers’
Following on from a successful one-day conference last December for young
voluntary sector researchers (now renamed the ‘new' voluntary sector
researchers’), a second meeting is to be held in conjunction with NCVO’s
Researching the Voluntary Sector conference at the University of
Birmingham. The ‘new researchers’’ session will be held on Tuesday 2nd
September 2003 from 2-5pm.
The theme of the session is ‘the delights and dilemmas of researching
volunteering and the voluntary sector’. Contributions would be welcome on
issues such as: confidentiality and feedback to research participants;
ethical issues when researching vulnerable groups; personal reflections on
undertaking qualitative research.
A keynote speaker will introduce the session, and we are inviting
participants to submit abstracts for 15-minute presentations. The papers
should aim to introduce topics and stimulate subsequent debate.
If you would like to submit an abstract please send 200 words to Nicola
Ponikiewski (email: [log in to unmask]; telephone: 020
7520 8911) at the Institute for Volunteering Research by 6th June 2003. If
you would like to attend as a delegate, please also contact Nicola by the
same date.
If you are registered to attend the main NCVO event, then you can come
along to our new researchers session for free (but please let us know
before hand). If you are not registered to attend the full event, then
there will be a nominal charge of £5 to cover refreshment costs (this will
entitle you to attend the new researchers session, but NOT the main
conference).
For further details about the main NCVO conference, please see their
website: www.ncvo-vol.org.uk
The event is supported by the Institute for Volunteering Research, the
Voluntary Sector Studies Network, ARVAC and NCVO.
