Dear People who want to leave the list, just go to

and fill in the two things that are asked for.
To return to the topic under discussion, Executive Remuneration:
EUBusiness prefaced their remarks on the EU’s latest Company Law reforms
work with
“It is now a fact that companies with strong corporate governance records
and sensitive social and environmental performance do better than their
competitors. Europe needs more of them to generate employment and higher
long-term sustainable growth.”
Take a look at http://www.eubusiness.com/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=110684 in
which the Commission tells us that
“The Commission believes that the EU's regulatory framework for company law
and corporate governance needs to be modernised because of the growing
trend for European companies to operate across EU borders, continuing
integration of European capital markets and the damaging impact of recent
financial scandals.
Internal Market Commissioner Frits Bolkestein said: "...economies only work
if companies are run efficiently and transparently. We have seen vividly
what happens if they are not: investment and jobs will be lost; and in the
worst cases, of which there are too many, shareholders, employees,
creditors and the public are ripped off. Prompt action is needed to ensure
sustainable public confidence in financial markets.
Mr Bolkestein added that the plan provides a clear and considered framework
combining new law where necessary with other solutions. "It will help
deliver the integrated and modern company law and corporate governance
framework which businesses, markets and the public are calling for."
The main objectives of the Action Plan are to strengthen shareholders'
rights and protection for employees, creditors and the other parties with
which companies deal while adapting company law and corporate governance
rules appropriately for different categories of company; and to foster the
efficiency and competitiveness of business, with special attention to some
specific cross-border issues.
For real zealots there is then a link to this page that contain, literally,
all you need to know about EU Company Law reform:
