Hi Julie - Age Concern/ITC recently published a report and held a conference on representation issues with some mention of audience consumption habits. Also, I completed a study for Carlton TV/ondigital in 2000 which looked both at older audiences' views on the way in which older age is portrayed as well as patterns of consumption of TV and other communication technologies - the report is not in the public domain but part of the findings were written up and published in Media, Culture and Society 2002, 24(1)105-120, as 'Growing Old Invisibly: Older Viewers Talk Television'.
Best
