DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
CHAIR IN CRIMINOLOGY
Applications are invited for this permanent position in the Department of
Social Sciences. The Department was rated 5*A in the 2001 RAE, with all
staff returned, and the main criterion for this post, as for all our
appointments, will be excellence in research, of a standard commensurate
with this rating. Candidates will view criminology firmly within a social
science framework. They should demonstrate outstanding research qualities,
and have an international reputation in their field, with a proven track
record in research and publication of the very highest standard of
international excellence. The successful candidate will provide leadership
for this area of research within the department, and will collaborate
actively in the department's interdisciplinary research culture and
programme. They will assume Directorship of the Department's Midlands
Centre for Criminology and Criminal Justice.
You will deliver teaching to the postgraduate MSc programme in criminology,
and to the undergraduate programme in criminology and social policy. All
staff have equal teaching loads to ensure maximum capacity for research
across the department. Candidates for this post should have strong
experience of postgraduate teaching and research supervision, and will be
expected to attract and to supervise research students. The Department
places great emphasis on collegiality, and candidates will need to show they
have the personal and professional qualities to work constructively and
creatively with colleagues across the department.
