Dear People,
Please let me introduce myself. I am closely connected to two
organisations in the UK for counselling psychology, one of which
specialises in Trauma. The first is the Association of Humanistic
Psychology Practitioners (AHPP) for which I am on 2 committees - the
events committee and the development committee. The second organisation
is called TIR UK a UK branch of a school of thought that started in the
US. Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) is one of the leading methods for
resolving PTSD. I am also a trauma counsellor myself. I found out about
this list through Dr. Anne Eyre when she sent me information about the
ATSS conference in Birmingham. TIRA (the central TIR Association)and the
ATSS are on very good terms with each other and support each others
work. That is how I originally got in touch with Anne.
If any of you get to check your email again before the conference in
Houston - I recommend going to Marian Volkman's 2.5 hour talk on
resolving fears of possible futures. She is one of TIRA's top innovators
and is really something.
I look forward to talking part in discussions on this list.
Regards,
Henry

Dear listmates
We have been joined by Henry Whitfield to whom I extend our customary
welcome.
I hope that you find it a good place and share with us something about
your background when you feel 'comfortable' to do so. It will probably
be a little bit quiet this week as there are a few of the members
attending the ATSS Conference in Houston.
We are still a small list - but I like to think that we represent the
cream! (But then, I am a little biased possibly!)
Best wishes
Paul

Hello Henry
Welcome to the list.
I have only just joined the list myself a few weeks ago. What Paul fails
to mention is not only are we the cream but the clots as well . Well
personally speaking that is. Look forward to your contribution. Pamela

Sorry Pamela, I have to disagree.I only allow the cream to rise to the
top in this list. That includes those that might not have the answer at
the time - but are 1) willing to admit it (something that I do most of
the time), 2) graciously accept help from the others when the first
criteria is encountered and, 3) even more graciously proffer their
'wisdom' when others are struggling with a point or topic. As YOU (and
the others on the list) all fit this criteria you are, ipso facto, the
CREAM!

Hi gang,
Speaking - or should I type, writing - of clots, I have just returned
from a weekend retreat about Henri J. M. Nouwen, author of 'Clowning in
Rome' and about forty other hits. How wonderful to learn about such a
man who could be perfectly open about his imperfections and his
struggles, and who loved clowns and clowning around.
Ian

Nouwen is one of my favourite writers, and I'm sure the retreat was
wonderful. Perhaps you also like Beuchner?
Now, off for a few days. Lizbeth
