Evening Seminar 25th April
Critical issues in understanding and resolving trauma - by Stephen
Bisbey Bsc Psych. , CTS
This talk is on a cognitive model of trauma, shown to consistently
resolve Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
This cognitive model of trauma will be presented by its originator Mr.
Stephen Bisbey and co-author of "Brief Therapy for Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder: Traumatic Incident Reduction and related techniques." *
This talk provides understanding of principles underlying the technique
of Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) - a structured imagery exposure
method for enabling a client to fully assimilate and accommodate their
past traumatic experience. Controlled comparitive studies with other
methods for resolving PTSD have demonstrated TIR to be consistently
effective at resolving PTSD and other effects of traumatic stress. It
accomplishes this by gradiently enabling a person to inspect and
discharge the emotional and cognitive content of the trauma. The
resolution of the condition typically ends with a cognitive shift as the
client regains awareness of the cognitions that underlie the emotions of
the Trauma. Follow up studies have also shown relapse to be very
uncommon.
