I put my hands up as one of the people who occasionally uses this list in
off-topic ways. I do have a few comments:
1. That long term users of any e-mail group tend towards the chatty and
personal over a period of time; it is a fairly natural and healthy dynamic.
2. I hope the group is wide ranging enough that it can encompass both the
impersonal academic and more off-the-wall but exploratory issues.
3. I agree with some other members that I can get a little tired when the
group is over-used as a personal support mechanism - but I will emphasize
'over-used'.
4. To be honest, I would actually welcome more theoretical input into the
group. However, I find that most members rarely contribute, and that the
academic ,issues that do come up tend to be of interest to researchers but
have little to add in terms of insightful practise. I'd urge members to
explore any of their interests here as long as they are within the scope of
the group. Of course that is the question - what is the scope?
