A CELEBRATION OF ENGLISH LOCAL HISTORY
IN THE LEICESTER STYLE
A series of events to reflect the work and achievements of the Centre
for English Local History, to coincide with Local History week.
The unique Department (now Centre) of English Local History at the
University of Leicester has existed since its foundation under Prof.
W.G. Hoskins in 1948. Its special characteristics are its interests in
localities throughout England and beyond, its inter-disciplinary
methods, for example embracing anthropology and archaeology, its
interests in landscape as well as societies and cultures.
PROGRAMME
2.30 - 4.00 Presentation of recent and current research by members
of staff of the Centre for English Local History and by recent
postgraduate students.
Contributors will include Professor Harold Fox, Dr Graham Jones,
Dr Richard Jones, Dr Mark Page, Professor Keith Snell, Mr. Alan Fox and
Ms Lynn Marston.
4.00 - 5.00 Tea will be served by the Friends of the Centre for
English Local History.
5.30 Professor Chris Dyer will give his inaugural lecture in the
Lecture Theatre 1, Ken Edwards building entitled 'Hidden from History,
Enquiries into Past Localities.'
Those wishing to attend the events between 2.30 and 5.00 p.m. should
