Hi Tait!
The National Trust developed an add-on to HBSMR which allows users to record
monitoring visits to sites. The condition of each site at each visit is
assessed in terms of:
Stability - unknown, rapid deterioration, slow deterioration, stable
Vulnerability - high, medium, low, unknown
Damage By - one or more of the following options, each option can have a
measure of the impact of damage - Severe, Moderate, Slight, None, Potential
BAN Burrowing animals
BUI Building work
BUR Burning
CLT Cultivation
DEM Demolition
DIS Disturbance/intrusion
ENV Environmental cause
INA Info not available
MDT Metal detector activity
MNQ Mining/quarrying
NFA No factors apply
PEO People (erosion)
RD Road construction
SHP Sheep
STK Other Stock
STM Storm damage
TRE Tree planting
VAN Vandalism
VEG Vegetation
VEH Vehicles
WAT Water action
This list seems broadly comparable to the MPP list you quote, and I agree
with Ed that an agreed standard terminology is the way forward.
In addition monitored by, monitor date, photographed ?, and site
recommendations can be recorded for each site.
Jason Siddall at the National Trust will know more about the implementation
of this recording schema, and I am not sure whether any other SMRs are using
this system. Perhaps any that are would like to comment?
Hope that helps
Sarah

Hi Graham,
Another source, which I'm sure colleagues on FISH can comment on, is the
wordlists used by the National Trust, who, as you can imagine, have a lot of
experience in this sort of survey.
For comparison, the Buildings at Risk surveys combine two separate measures
'Condition' and 'Occupancy' together to assess the 'Risk' to a building (I
think as Low, Medium or High).
Very much an area that needs to be covered by extensions of MIDAS and the
INSCRIPTION terminology standards.
