Synopsis of Films
Theubet, Bertrand: Le Pied dans la Fourmillère (TSR, 1998)
Bernard Comment, who has been living abroad as a writer, decides to
return to his native Switzerland to find out what it is that binds
together the inhabitants of this multicultural nation. He begins by
studying recent history and myths, which it seems are closely
interconnected. Following the trail of the ants on Swiss 1000 franc
notes he finds himself in the underground passages of the national
defence network, and in the shelters built for the protection of the
civilian population in the event of war. Along the way, Comment
discovers that his fellow countrymen have many contrasting views and
attitudes about their homeland. At the end of his voyage of discovery
the writer, turned journalist, realises that the Swiss spirit which so
often prefers myth and illusion to reality and historical fact, has
certain unusual twists to it that he never suspected, and which are
unintentionally funny and perhaps revealing.
Schocher, Christian: Giuventetgna Dultsch Utschi (Fama Film / TVR,
2002)
A day in the life of six Rhaetian youths from Surselva; six young women
and men searching for their own way in life on a path which vacillates
between tradition and modern age, and between their ties to the
homeland and their wanderlust. Flurina, Janis, Guido, Jasmin, Martin
and Teolinda give a spontaneous and forthright account of their
feelings on life, their experiences, their dreams and desires, and from
the number one topic: love and sex.
Lyssy, Rolf: Die Schweizermacher (CH, 1978)
Max Bodmer and Moritz Fischer, the leading characters in this ironic,
satirical comedy dealing with becoming - and living as - a Swiss
citizen, are members of the Cantonal Police entrusted with the delicate
task of examining foreigners who are candidates for Swiss citizenship.
Different people have their own experiences when confronted with the
various methods that can be employed in an investigation of this kind.
All are fictitious. However any resemblance to actual situations cannot
entirely be ruled out...
Schaub, Christoph: Il Project Vrin (TVR, 1999)
Vrin is small, but determined to go its own way - economically,
socially, and in its architecture. How do people become like that? The
film uncovers a very special kind of persistence and stubbornness.
Frey, Urs / Wildbolz, Mike: L'è uscìa (TVR, 1999)
The inhabitants of the alpine valleys of canton Grisons have
traditionally had a very humble and meagre existence. In many areas the
benefits of modern economic prosperity began to trickle down just a few
decades ago. Today those who still keep to the old ways are few in
number. One of them is Renzo Maroli, a man in his seventies. The year
round Renzo lives in simple mountain cabins on the steep hillsides
above the alpine village of Castasegna.
