I think it is very helpful to attach the label 'evidence-based' to our movement as it is eminently transferable from other disciplines where it is well known and accepted. The theoretical basis is the same regardless of whether it is evidence-based medicine, evidence-based nursing, evidence-based librarianship. However we should keep in mind that the nature of the 'best available evidence' will vary according to discipline.
With regard to the 'L' word, I believe that calling a library anything other than a library merely creates confusion for our clients. I work in a hospital library which has been renamed an Information Resource Library. We are forever redirecting mail and telephone calls meant for Human Resources or Clinical Information Services (ie. Medical Records - another example of an unnecessarily confusing name change)
