ESRC Collaborative (CASE) Studentship
Business Led Regeneration: Addressing
Market Failure
in Areas of Urban Deprivation
Middlesex University and the London
Development Agency
Applications are also invited for a full-time three year ESRC +3 research
studentship entitled Business Led Regeneration: Addressing Market
Failure in Areas of Urban Deprivation. This timely project provides the
opportunity to work with Middlesex University and the LDA to explore
the potential of business led strategies in urban regeneration. This
studentship will critically examine theoretical notions that the problems
of deprived urban areas are related to a variety of market failures which
constrain business activity and that policy responses should seek to
address these failures and build upon the competitive strengths of a
locality. The study will focus on experiences within London, a region of
particular interest given recent strong economic growth and the
consequent potential for business led strategies, yet one also
characterised by the apparent failure of its deprived localities to derive
any benefit from regional economic growth.
What the Studentship provides
The studentship is for three years and pays all tution fees and a
full-time ESRC grant of £10,300 p.a., plus an additional
payment of £5,500 p.a. from the LDA
Studentship Location
The studentship will be managed and supervised jointly by
Middlesex University and the LDA. The student will be required
to spend time at both institutions across the period of the
studentship.
