WAR ON IRAQ
A mass peace movement is growing as the world realises that the US emperor
is parading without clothes. It is obvious to most now that the war is not
being waged to rid Saddam's regime of weapons of mass destruction nor to
liberate the Iraqis but as a brazen war for Empire. The invading forces are
not being welcomed and the war is likely to be longer and more complex than
originally envisaged. There is great consternation over US plans for an
occuption government and US contractors having a monopoly on the profits to
be made from reconstruction, and many are asking who's next. Now is time
for the anti-war movement to press forward with the demand for a unilateral
withdrawal of US and UK troops from Iraq.

The Naked Emperor
By Achin Vanaik
The sheer brazenness of US behaviour has forced upon the international
public's consciousness the recognition as never before that the US is an
emperor without clothes; that this war is being fought for imperial
purposes, no matter what are Washington's official explanations

'Shock And Awe' Kills Innocents
By Praful Bidwai
The war coalition miscalculated about the quick victory of their 'Shock and
Awe' strategy. The coalition has suffered numerous seatbacks, which have the
potential to radically change the course of the conflict, especially its
political complexion. http://www.tni.org/archives/bidwai/shock.htm
An Agenda for Global Hegemony
By Praful Bidwai
Bush's war for Empire has earned the United States universal loathing and

Iraq: Ominous Signs Grow for US, Britain in "Shock and Awe" War By Praful
Bidwai
It is becoming apparent that the shrunken war coalition comprising the
United States, Britain and Australia will probably not enjoy the luxury of a
swift, smooth, decisive, victory -- despite its overwhelming military
superiority over Saddam Hussein's forces

Talking Points. The Humanitarian Aid Conundrum
By Phyllis Bennis
The UN Security Council is likely to vote tomorrow (28 March) on a

Talking Points and Next Steps. As War Begins
By Phyllis Bennis and John Cavanagh
It isn't the first time the U.S. has launched an unjustified illegal war.
But it is the first time such a war has been justified through a "doctrine"
of preemptive war that abandons all understandings that war, with all its
horrors, can be used only as the last possible resort when a nation's
security and survival are threatened.
