Hi there,
In a recent e-mail Andy Powell raised a query about the stability of the
draft IEEE LOM XML binding. This is an issue I have raised with both Dan
Rehak and Erik Duval recently.
At the IMS meeting in Vancouver in February Dan said that he did not
envisage any major changes to the draft LOM binding that can be
downloaded from Erik's website. However given the nature of the IEEE's
balloting procedure it could be the end of the year before the binding
is formally approved, as even minor typographical changes require
re-balloting. So although it may take some time for the binding to
become a formal standard it should be stable enough to implement.
At the CEN/ISSS Learning Technology Workshop meeting in Paris last week
Erik Duval provided an update of progress within the IEEE, I will
forward a copy of his powerpoint presentation once I receive a copy from
the workshop secretary. He said that he has made all the XML binding
documents available form his own website to ensure that they are easily
accessible and has recently added the ballot document. In addition he
is actively seeking comments and feedback on this binding so I would
suggest that anyone who has had a play around with it should drop him a
mail at [log in to unmask] He also added that ARIADNE has
created a bunch of LOM instances using the new binding that can be
downloaded from the ARIADNE website at http://www.ariadne-eu.org/
although I haven't managed to track these down yet!
I'll keep you posted if I hear anything else.
Bye
Lorna
