**************************************************************************************************************************************************
UKOLN and the National e-Science Centre invite you to attend the second
in a series of workshops being held
in Edinburgh on May 16 2003.
*Schemas and ontologies: building a semantic infrastructure for GRIDs
and digital libraries *
There are still a few places available at the workshop. If you would
like to attend we recommend that you register
your attendance as soon as possible at:
http://umbriel.dcs.gla.ac.uk/NeSC/general/esi/events/163/index.html
****************************************************************************************************************************************************
The workshop will bring together GRID and digital library implementers
to consider approaches to developing, expressing and sharing schemas and
ontologies. Valuable experience can be shared between the communities,
in relation both to the social processes involved in reaching consensus
on common vocabularies, and to the technologies for sharing semantics.
The vision of the Semantic Web underlies efforts to share semantics in
an automated fashion. There is an overlapping interest amongst the GRID
and digital library communities in a number of themes broadly connected
to the Semantic Web/Grid:
· Developing core vocabularies
· Mapping between vocabularies
· Sharing languages and models for declaring schemas
· Mandating schemas for base-line interoperability
· Establishing a distributed network of schema registries
Participants will be updated on recent developments and breakout groups
will provide opportunities for discussion of future requirements. The
workshop will identify any areas which provide promise for future
collaboration.
An outline Programme and registration details can be found at:
http://umbriel.dcs.gla.ac.uk/NeSC/general/esi/events/163/index.html
There is no charge for attending this event and refreshments and lunch
will be provided. Places at the workshop will be limited so to ensure
that we can guarantee you a place please register your attendance as
soon as possible.
We look forward to seeing you in May. If you have queries please do not
hesitate to contact Sara Hassen, Events and Marketing Manager, on 01225
