Subject: Producing an Area Studies Box
Producing an Area Studies Box
Some of you may be familiar with the Subject Centre?s box for marketing
languages. http://www.lang.ltsn.ac.uk/languagesbox.aspx (A box has been
distributed to each UK institution, so if you are not familiar with the
box, it may be with someone outside your department- please contact me to
find out to whom we sent the box).
At a recent Subject Centre meeting for practitioners of less commonly
taught Area Studies, it was suggested that the Subject Centre might begin
to develop a similar box for Area Studies. It is clear that it would be
quite hard to produce a generic Area Studies box, as there are such a
variety of Area Studies so we would envisage that each subject would wish
to market their courses in their specific area.
Therefore it was suggested that could provide a template.
A box could include:
* Information about the relevant country(ies)
* Support from relevant embassies (possibly providing funding).
* Language learning information (if appropriate)
* Articles about career prospects of the Area Study
* Marketing Area Studies CD.
* Support from Area Studies Subject associations.
Please let me know if the idea appeals and how we may go about assisting
you with marketing your own Area Study.
Best wishesJohn
