Interestingly enough, I believe the current US 'inch' is defined in
centimeters (2.54 of 'em) and that in turn based on the meter which is
apparently the wavelength of something or other... Hmm...
(Personally I think in inches or metric whichever takes my fancy at the time
but I can't stand pounds or stones - someone who learnt BOTH at school).
