Bog Matting (in this part of the world) is made up of large planks of wood almost railway sleeper size linked together by wires, this allows 360 machines to track across wet areas....The only time I have seen them used (in very wet bog) they trashed the underlying subsoils when they failed...and fail they did!..beware!
All the best

Dear All
Can anyone give me their opinions regarding the use of "bog matting" (and by
this I'm presuming it to mean geotextile matting) and its effectiveness (or not
as the case may be) when placed on a buffer material above archaeological
features. In this particular instance the topsoil will have been stripped.
Thank you!
Lee White
