The Department of Information and Communications.
The Department of Information and Communications was
awarded a grade 4 in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise
and is seeking to expand and further develop its research base,
including the work of the internationally renowned Centre for
Research in Library and Information Management (CERLIM).
Applications for research leading to the award of a doctoral
degree are sought related to any of the following areas:
·Access to Electronic Information
Current research in the Department focuses on: electronic and
hybrid libraries; information retrieval, including text and image
retrieval; information seeking behaviour; resource discovery and
resource delivery; citizen-driven networked publishing.
·Information Management
Current research in the Department focuses on: quality
management, decision-making and performance measurement;
library and information systems.
·Social Informatics
Current research in the Department focuses on: community
informatics, European and global communications public policy
and regulation, including electronic commerce and the Internet;
Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and
gender issues; ICT and privacy; the digital divide; ICTs, online
and lifelong learning; accessibility and ICTs.
