Recent postings to the list, especially those seeking to make contact with
people in the same sector (industry), highlight the fact that many people
have not connected to the networks that associations such as the RMS of GB,
SOA, ARMA International, etc provide. For example, the RMS has a London
Circle, and Local Government and Legal sector sub-groups and ARMA has many
SIGs. Perhaps there is a need for more industry-specific networks for
archives & RIM professionals in other sectors (eg: pharmaceuticals, hotel &
leisure, education, etc)? It is also clear that the professional
associations are missing out on these potential new members, so perhaps
they need to more pro-actively market themselves? The RIM training and
qualifications sectors are presumably also unaware of this untapped
(invisible) non-member market? Perhaps people change jobs too frequently,
or newcomers are not introduced into the groups by their predecessors?
Perhaps we RIM professionals need to do more 'succession-planning' and
awareness-raising?
