Dear Philip and all,
As far as subject matter goes I would welcome more on systems analysis generally and particular tools such as DIRKS and others. As a prospective employer of more junior staff I also think there is an important place for short, basic skills training.
Another important issue is format - too many courses advertised as training
are actually not much more then a line up of speakers presenting case studies and although these may be interesting and informative in themselves
and provide good forums for discussion and networking I don't feel they constitute training as such (i.e. where you come away enabled to do something you couldn't before).
But if I'm honest the main criteria for attending (or not) a training course is price. Many of the courses run by commercial training providers appeal but are way beyond my budget at £2/300 plus. Professional bodies tend to provide more affordable sessions at under £100 but perhaps because of this tend to be more of the case-study type day.
As you can probably tell, I don't go to many training courses these days!
