Dear Colleagues,
we would be grateful if you could distribute this call for contributions
widely.
'Sexualties' Special Issue on Polyamory - Call for Contributors
Polyamory describes a relationship orientation that assumes that it is
possible to love many people and to maintain multiple intimate and
sexual relationships. Polyamory is still a relatively unknown term and
social science writing on sexuality and relationships has so far paid
little attention to the identities, intimate and sexual practices, and
political ideas associated with polyamory. We are excited, therefore,
to put together a special issue of the journal Sexualities on polyamory.
Contributors are invited to explore questions around identity,
community, and social movement politics in different social and
geographical contexts, including cyber space. How does polyamory relate
to other discourses on non-monogamy? In which ways does polyamory
challenge and negotiate compulsory monogamy and other heteronormative
relationship patterns? How does polyamory relate to sexual orientation
and gender identity? How do different gendered, racialized, and classed
postionings relate to polyamorous practice? How do people negotiate
polyamorous relationships against the backdrop of differential
positioning? What power relationships are involved in polyamorous
relationships and how do they get challenged in polyamorous practice?
What are the important issues at stake with regard to parenting in
polyamorous relationships? How are polyamorous relationships or
families affected by social policy or the law?
We welcome both empirical and theoretical contributions on
polyamorous practice or discourse. We also appreciate the submission of
reflexive autobiographical articles. We encourage submissions of art
work on polyamory.
If you want to contribute an article, please, submit an abstract of
not more than five hundred words until August 15, 2003. We expect
articles to be ready for submission by November 30, 2003. Please, note
that all articles will be sent to anonymous referees before a final
decision about publication can be made. If you want to contribute a
book review on work concerned with polyamory or art work, the same dead
lines apply. If you have any inquiries or suggestions, please, write to
the editorial group consisting in Umut Erel, Jinthana Haritaworn,
Chin-ju Lin, and Christian Klesse at [log in to unmask] We are looking
forward to receiving submissions.
