Yes that is exactly what I mean. Sorry for my poor semantics:). I am
developing a site for Historians, and have come up with some temporary
extensions of my own,
http://dev.itadevelopment.com/~boumphreyfr/historytopics/ht/elements/element
s.php (if you get asked for a pw just ignore it)
but I really don't want to reinvent the wheel & I would like to use
extensions that have a community consensus rather than just reflecting my
own prejudices.

I would certainly like to discuss possibilities. I see a real need for
Historical extensions.

Hi, Frank,
Not quite sure what you mean by Historical Metadata, but i am guessing
you're interested in extensions that are tailored to meet specifice
functional requirements of historians?
I'm not personally aware of any such work, and there are no plans to do this
currently in the DC community, but the nature of how the DCMI community
works is for problems and the expertise to address them come from the
community. If a clear need exists, and there are people prepared to work
together to reach consensus on solutions, then DCMI can provide a venue in
which to conduct such work.
Of course, the problems are generally pretty easy to see, but focussing
resources on their solution is often a lot harder, but if you want to pursue
it, sent a note to Makx Dekkers or myself and we can discuss possibilities.
regards
stu

Does anyone know of any groups working on Historical metadata, or if the DC
has any plans to tackle this task?

Thom,
Regarding ISO 19115, the Canadian expert group on metadata, led by Yves
Hudon of the Secrétariat du Conseil du trésor from the Government of Quebec,
is preparing a draft proposal entitled "Compliance of ISO 19115 and the
draft of Canadian core metadata recommended profile with ANSI/NISO Z39.85 -
2001"
The paper discusses the extent to which the Core metadata profile from ISO
19115 and the draft Canadian core metadata profile of ISO 19115 address the
metadata elements specified in the (Dublin Core) ANSI/NISO standard.

Subject: geographical information and dublin core
hi,
dc-environment is currently looking into the use of geographical information
(systems, GI) in the domain and its relevance for Dublin Core in general.
currently the MMI-DC Workshop (a workshop at European level providing an
open forum in which Dublin Core metadata standards related issues get
addressed) is sponsoring work on developing "GUIDANCE MATERIAL FOR MAPPING
BETWEEN DUBLIN CORE AND ISO IN THE GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION DOMAIN" and the
"MAPPING BETWEEN DUBLIN CORE AND THE ISO STANDARD DIS 19115".
i would like to solicit your input re. the use of GI in other DC domains and
would like to know who has got this on their agenda in general.
thanks
thom
