Hi
Just wanted to introduce myself and say something about the project I'm
involved with. My background is as a mental health social worker. For the
past three years I've been teaching on the MA/Diploma in social work at the
University of Nottingham. In January I began work on a one year project
(mhhe) which aims to enhance learning and teaching about mental health,
within higher education, across the disciplines and professions. It's a
collaborative initiative between the learning and teaching support network
(ltsn) subject centres for psychology; social policy and social work;
medicine, dentistry and veterinary science and health sciences and practice.
Further details about the project are available at www.mhhe.ltsn.ac.uk
Over the next year we're planning to develop a web-based resource exchance,
collate and publish case studies (with examples of reflective and
innovative approaches to learning and teaching about mental health) and
organise some workshops to bring people together with an interest in this
area. The first of these will focus on user/carer involvement in learning
and teaching about mental health.
I attended the day on community psychology organised by Paul Duckett in
Manchester in January, was very interested in the work going on in the
field and struck by some of the parallels with discussions taking place in
social work and other contexts. Do get in touch if you have ideas about
ways in which the mhhe project might support learning and teaching about
mental health in the area of community psychology, have examples of
teaching you would be willing to share or would like to find out more about
the project.
