The OpenURL/Context Object Registry
Is anybody out there thinking about using the OpenURL/Context Object to
create links to and from (a) Learning Objects and/or (b) other digital
resources such as journals?
IN ANY CAPACITY AT ALL!!!
I know this is early days considering that the Context Object specifications
have only just been submitted for comment and the Registry is not 'Open' to
new metadata/communities until late summer/early autumn.
I am working on simulating how this might work at the moment using SFX, (our
OpenURL Resolver) to HTTP Fetch and parse Learning Object Metadata XML
files, populate an expanded Generic Request Object, (see SFX manuals if
interested to find out exactly what this is:
and create URLs to resources pertinent to the LOM.
Examples
Simple:
(1) A student is recommended to take a Learning Object, is provided the
metadata through some kind of form and wants to find the Appropriate Copy
for her university.
More complex:
(2) A student is taking a Physics course in Spanish and wants to find a
similar course in English.
(3) A student is taking a course by 'AnAuthor' and wants to find other
resources also Contributed to by the same 'AnAuthor' e.g. journal articles.
What would be good would be to find out anybody that is interested in using
the new OpenURL specification to design a way to find the Appropriate Copy
where the source/Referent is a Learning Object.
ANY comments or show of interest here would be great!
Look forward to hearing from you soon,
