The DELIVER Project needs to agree a XML schema for describing a Reading List (or, set of resources that students should read/view/listen-to, as recommended for a specific learning course/module/unit, by a specific tutor). Having taken the customary wade through part of the IMS (etc, etc) swamp, we've found no obvious candidate (if there is one) that meets what we think are all the requirements.
In summary, my spec for 'ReadingListML':
* is not intended to contain actual learning content, but to contain references to items most of which can be described by a chunk of standard bibliographic citation metadata; this may or may not include reference to a preferred holding for an item, or to a location aid (such as an OpenURL-resolver) for holdings.
* referenced items may be e-resources, but may also be print books/journal-articles (or other stuff not online).
* each item (as above) must be associated with attributes (defined by the list author) that link it to the course/unit context, such as dates of relevance, importance ("background", "essential", "recommended for purchase"), sequencing relative to other items in the list, and other commentary.
* the 'wrapper' around a set of items (i.e. the 'list' bit) must link the whole thing to the course/unit (including namespace for the course - i.e. instituition), and include general commentary by the list author, identification of list author, IPR (of the list itself as a creation).

We would appreciate advice from anyone who has waded further into the swamp... on candidate schemata, and on how best to use them.
