LEARNING SCIENCES RESEARCH INSTITUTE (LSRI)
The University of Nottingham
UK
Up to 10 Research Studentships
The Learning Sciences Research Institute (LSRI) is a new collaboration
between the Schools of Computer Science and IT, Education and Psychology.
Up to 10 studentships are being offered for 2003/04. These may be in any
area related to the learning sciences but must be jointly supervised between
two of the three Schools making up the Institute.
Candidates should have or expect to gain at least a 2.1 in an undergraduate
degree or Masters degree in Psychology, Computer Science, Education or in an
appropriate discipline.
The Institute's PhD programme builds upon four key themes bridging computer
science, education, psychology, cognitive science, artificial intelligence,
and cognate areas.
· Processes of human learning and expertise
· Interactions between learners, knowledgeable others (e.g. teachers,
peers, trainers), and technology
· Theoretically grounded principles for the design and evaluation of
technologies to support human learning and related processes.
· Harnessing technological and pedagogical creativity in education and
training contexts.
The studentships cover fees and a student stipend of £9,000 per annum (based
on 2003-04) for home and EU full-time students. Fees only are covered in
part-time applications. Contributions to fees for overseas international
students may be judged on an individual, case-by-case basis.
There is no closing date for applications, though we shall begin allocating
studentships from mid April 2003 onwards. The studentships will start
October 2003.
Further information about the Institute and a register of staff interests is
