Proving and Improving: Young Adult Learners Partnership Conferences
Wednesday 9 April 2003
Foresight Centre, Liverpool University, Brownlow Road, Liverpool L69
Wednesday 30 April 2003
London Voluntary Sector Resource Centre, Holloway Road, London N7
Two conferences focussing upon ‘proving and improving’ informal learning
provision for young adults. Through presentations, workshops, and
interactive discussions, delegates and young people will explore the
effectiveness of informal learning in fostering the social inclusion of
young people and their re-integration with learning. Particular attention
will be paid to good practice in the areas of basic skills, expressive
arts, the voice of the learner, physical well-being and emotional and
mental health.
The key aims of the conferences are to:
· Update participants on the work of the NYA/NIACE Young Adult
Learners Partnership
· Highlight effective practice in informal learning, drawing
particularly on the experiences of projects supported by the Neighbourhood
Support Fund and the Adult and Community Learning Fund
· Enable delegates and young people to ‘make the case’ for effective
informal learning to national and local decision-makers.
These events will be of interest to managers and practitioners engaged in
targeted work with young adult learners aged 16-25 with the purpose of re-
engaging them in education, training or employment. These include local
authorities (youth work, adult and community), voluntary organisations,
Connexions Services, training providers, further education colleges, youth
offending teams and providers of other forms of community-based learning.
