NHSU
Skills for Life and Health Conference
Tuesday-Wednesday, 29-30 April 2003
Ramada Penns Hall Hotel, Sutton Coalfield, West Midlands
It is estimated that at least 60,000 NHS staff may have some difficulty
with their literacy, numeracy or English language skills. The Skills for
Life and Health portfolio is therefore a key element of the NHSU’s initial
portfolio of learning opportunities, and one of its highest priorities. The
overarching aim of the portfolio will be to encourage staff working within
the NHS, who are looking to improve their skills in literacy, numeracy or
English language, to take up available opportunities and to provide support
and resources to help them to do so.
This conference will provide opportunities to:
· share existing good practice in the delivery of Skills for Life
within a health context
· provide networking opportunities for education and health providers
in order to facilitate the roll out of good practice
· explore the role of the NHSU in Skills for Life and Health
· discuss together how the work should develop in the future.
The conference will be of interest to senior managers in colleges of
further education, LEAs and WEA; basic skills leads in local Learning and
Skills Councils; NHS human resources staff; NHS staff side representatives;
basic skills leads in Workforce Development Confederations; key social care
stakeholders; social care workforce representatives; and contractor
employers in health and social care. The event is free of charge.
