I was not attending the WAC inter-congress in 1998 where the Ayodhya case were
on the agenda, but as far as I have heard, both Hindu and Muslim archaeologists
from India supported the idea that an archaeological excavation could settle
the dispute and that what happened 450 years ago had relevance for what should
be done with that case today. I think many western archaeologists are sceptical
to such a view. Archaeological excavations seldom prove anything, they raises
new questions. And do the distant past have any relevance for what we should do
today?
