The University of York is one of the UK's leading universities and the
Department of Social Policy & Social Work is one of its strongest
departments, graded 5 for research and excellent for teaching.
Applications are invited for places on research degree programmes and for
the MA in Social Policy.
Research degrees (MPhil and PhD)
Research supervision is available on many topics including child
protection, gender, family policy, social work practice, housing,
environment, comparative social policy, sociology of health and illness,
youth policy, and information technology and welfare. The Department has
ESRC research training recognition and candidates offered places can apply
for ESRC 1+3 and +3 Studentships. A three year University Research
Studentship is also available.
MA in Social Policy
This 1 year full-time course is recognised by the ESRC as providing the
research training needed for students who wish to continue their studies at
doctoral level. Candidates offered a place on the programme can apply for
ESRC 1+3 funding. A University Masters award covering home level fees is
also available.
