I have been emailed by a Professor in the U.S.A. with
the question:-
Has anything ever been published, or have any scholars
ever put forth the thesis that Kipling’s “Gunga Din”
may have been in any way derivative, that it may have
been patterned after a poem written by any other poet?
He was posed this question by his students, and after
much research has not been able to find anything, but
as a result, he at least found our website.
After searching the Journal Index and the mailbase
archives, as well as the various biographies, I have
said that I have never heard of this for "Gunga Din"
although there are many other poems where Kipling
acknowledges this himself. Please can anyone help with
a definite yes or no?
With best regards
