Technology Support for Data Protection Compliance
4th April 2003
UMIST, Manchester
The introduction of the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 imposes a number of requirements for transparency
and openness regarding information held by private and public
organisations. The role of Information Technology is of paramount
importance in order to improve compliance and minimise the consequences
of both legal frameworks.
Interest in the technological implications of Data Protection and
Freedom of Information compliance is beginning to gain momentum. It is
accepted that there is great potential to harness the technology
effectively to provide real benefits in the way organisations deal with
the information management challenges posed by the new legislation.
The Technology Support for Data Protection Compliance event presents a
number of key information management areas where technology can make a
difference. As part of the event, there will be presentations from
academia reviewing the technological support in areas such as retention
management and the web. There will also be presentations from vendors
regarding existing solutions available in areas such as notification and
subject access.
