I have to say I agree with Tim re. the environment to which the document is being faxed. But also a large consideration is the content of the document being faxed. We hold a lot of highly confidential/restricted material and faxing is quite simply out of the question, so we have had to find alternative methods. I would say that if the document you are wishing to transmit via fax contains a large amount of sensitive material then don't do it, no matter how inconvenient it is to find an alternative.
