Here's another G'day from down under.
After attempting to do something with my big interest from school (biology)
by studying a B.Sc. in Biol and Chemistry and not doing so well, I
reassessed and tried for a B.Ed. and did little better.
So I tried to find a "job" and was successful at obtaining employment at a
local government Council as a "Word Processor/Filing Clerk" (I kid you not).
I was more successful at this as I became "Records Manager" (although I
think the position would better have been called Records Officer or
something).
After 7 years employment I decided I needed a holiday and so toured London,
Scotland and Iceland. Upon my return to Australia I was able to get a real
Records Manager position which I have now held for 2 months. I have a
massive job ahead of me as nothing approaching good Records Management
appears to have been done here. I also have much to learn about creating a
file structure, retention and disposal, disaster management and many other
real RM issues.
Congratulations to all involved in getting this site up and I hope all of
you gain a great deal of benefit from interaction, sharing and discussion of
RM issues and information. And not only between yourselves, but promote RM
to those who don't know of this listserv and those who are ignorant of RM
and its importance to them!
