italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear Colleagues,
Can anyone direct me to videotapes of or about Dario Fo and/or Franca
Rame in English? I have a BBC documentary on Fo copied off the TV
long ago, but it is in very bad condition. I teach Fo in English in
courses both on 20th-century Italy and on Renaissance theater.
Students get very engaged in his work, and I have virtually nothing
to show them: this morning they were absolutely thrilled to see clips
from the grainy, terrible copy of a copy of a copy of something I got
from some other copy. Is this really all we can have?
Just to head off some of the sensible but unfortunately not useful
replies I might get: I have already consulted the Fo-Rame research
web site and the site run by Rame, but they list no English-language
audiovisual resources. I also have plenty of videotapes in Italian,
purchased at performances in Italy (These have very bad sound
quality, by the way). But my serious need is for things in English.
Is it possible to buy tapes from BBC broadcasts, and does anyone know
how? Are there videotapes of performances or documentaries produced
in the US? Mille grazie!
