Here in East Lothian we are starting to try and put together a project which involves local communities to examine and explore an industrial site (colliery, brick and tile kiln, salt production) with a lengthy history which also involves an 18th century pottery, a 17th century glass works in addition to a now buried 16th century harbour, fort, vaults and tidal mill. I am very much hoping we can encourage the local communities to be a part of the project from the outset, with interested individuals working alongside professional archaeologists. There are some individuals living in the community who used to work at the site before it was closed. It very much is still in its infancy but we have big plans. Hope this is of some interest.

I have a vague recollection of a London project - involving residents of a council estate in excavation (of Post-med buildings?) in their immediate vicinity. Mol/MoLAS should be able to supply more details.

Has anyone out there been involved with/planning an archaeological project/event with a social inclusion angle. This could be either from an SMR records perspective/archaeological fieldwork/other.
I am also interested to hear of any attempts at social inclusivity that have not worked as planned/hoped!
Many thanks,
Veronica
