Herkiran,
A couple of years ago as a student I went on the Grant not Fees
March in London along with 30000 others. As a wheelchair user I
decided to March with my University not the SWD crowd at the
front... we got into the inevitable bit of trouble :-) when we were
faced with a line of policemen charging towards us in a rather
unfriendly manner! Needless to say that the Police saw me and
stopped charging letting me through the line and therefore away
from harm...this of course brings up a completely different point
about why I didn't get into trouble with my non-disabled friends?!
However, if you want to go on the march, do. There will always be
the die-hard protestors who make it their business to get into
trouble (they generally sit in the middle of the road and/or charge at
police as hard as the police charge at them!) If you want to join this
group then do so at your peril, otherwise there is likely to be an
even bigger crowd of people who just want to march peacefully (if
not very noisily!) and I see no reason why you would come to any
physical harm doing this. If you are worried, stick to the edge of
the road where you will have a much clearer view of what is going
on ahead and the opportunity to side-step any trouble.
Hope this helps,
