PhD studentships in peatland palaeoecology at the University of Plymouth
Two Mires Research Group related PhD topics are being advertised at the University of Plymouth to start October 1st 2003:
1. The response of peatlands to climate change during the past two hundred years using high resolution testate amoebae analysis.
2. Development of a European transfer function for quantitative palaeohydrological reconstruction from peatland testate amoebae.
Both projects would benefit from interaction with a large European project on peat palaeoclimate reconstruction in which the University is involved as well as on going related research in the department. Only well qualified students holding a first class undergraduate degree or Master's degree should apply as these are competitive awards with other projects. A maintenance allowance at research council rates (£9,000 pa for 2003/4) plus laboratory and field expenses will be paid. Part-time teaching opportunities are also normally available.
Please contact me for further details and to discuss your application.
