Let's consider patient perception of "informed consent" and consent forms

This is a true story, overheard in a pub. (It could have been the "Harp pub
in County Sligo" but actually wasn't.)
Bloke describes to his buddy (in minute detail) his admission to hospital
for a hernia op. Cut (oops) to the relevant bit:
Bloke: "And then I signed the form ..."
Buddy: "What form?"
Bloke: "Y'know, the one that says that if things go wrong you can't sue them
afterwards ...."
That put things into perspective for me.
