Looking in the January supplement of the Emergency Medicine Journal of 27
Consultant appointments listed, 12 were from SpR posts, 5 were from Locum
Consultant posts and 10 were from established Consultants.
Where are all the SpRs?
--> Unless they are rich, typical SpRs will be tightly holding on to their
numbers and their current pay (likely band 2A) so as not to drop heavily in
the move to the consultant scale. When all fails and you have to move off
your "number" you would probably choose to go overseas for a bit and wait
until the whole
4-hour-door-to-gamble-door-to-foundation-status-unfinished-targets-thingie
completely fails and then, if the specialty still exists, they may return...
But NOT if the piecemeal implementation of the new consultant "contract",
which the governemnt has officially initiated now, is still around...
