Hardly the spirit of the New Deal, Andrew! Actually, although I've been
moaning about how much these guys are getting paid, I believe that A&E SHO
work is incredibly intensive, especially for inexperienced first-year SHOs.
So I'd much rather reduce their shifts and move them to band 1A, thereby
still getting (some) value for money, I hope!
I don't really mind their earnings that much, Andrew (W & H), but I've
noticed the inflationary effects upon locum earnings over the last few
years, and also the negative impact upon middle grade recruitment, unless
your Trust are very liberal with their purse strings. What's really
irritating however is how this inflationary effect seems to have fizzled out
as soon as it reached consultant level!
