A chance to hear Shostakovich's controversial Symphony 4 in C minor conducted by Ingo Metzmacher.
Described as a "camouflaged portrayal of the policies and apocalypses of the Soviet regime," his
fourth symphony was forbidden by authorities and removed from performance by the composer. Leading
up to Shostakovich are Wagner's Overture, Die Meistersinger - Wagner's only "comic" Opera - and
Beethoven's well loved Piano Concerto 3 in C minor with pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
